FAQs

What content area or skills do you offer tutoring in?

I am licensed to teach English for grades 7-12, and I have a degree in reading education for grades K-12. I love to help students improve their writing skills, grammar/syntax, and reading comprehension. If it's anything related to English/Language Arts and literacy, I'm game!

If I'm interested in hiring you, what initial steps should I take?

First, complete the "Inquiry" form located at the top of the page. This will provide me with some general information regarding your child(ren) and potential academic areas of concern, as well as some basic contact information. I'll contact you to set up a meeting, so that we can establish if we think I'd be a good fit as a tutor for your family. Assuming you'd like to move forward from there, we'll begin mapping out a schedule that works for both parties.

What are your prices?

I charge a standard $50 per hour. This cost covers any prep time I've put towards planning a session, creating/reviewing materials, and the actual hour spent with your child offering instruction.

What if I need to cancel a session?

Life happens - trust me, I get it. If you need to cancel a session, I ask that you contact me and provide notice of cancellation within 24 hours. In the event that a session cancellation is not provided within 24 hours notice, I will charge a $25 fee (50% of the standard hour pay).

Do you offer help with specific assignments, or do you just offer standard skills-based tutoring?

I am more than happy to do both! If your child has a specific assignment that he/she is struggling with, we can work specifically on that as needed. For example, if your child is struggling to write an essay for English class, I can offer tools and insight to walk him/her through the writing process, from initial brainstorming all the way through the final draft. However, if you have identified a particular area/areas of struggle, I can bring my own materials to address those concerns too.

What are your expectations for me/my child?

Your child will be viewed as one of my students: I will work passionately to help him/her reach academic success, and in return, I expect the same respectful behavior that I would require within my classroom. Frustration, stress, and disinterest can often be found within a student's academic struggles; I'm prepared for that! However, the student must communicate and attempt the tasks in order for me to be able to truly identify struggles and provide effective tutoring. From parents/family, I just ask for open communication, respect, and trust in my skillset.
